Quick Reference Guide
Venue Equipment Options for the Hard of Hearing

Assistive Listening Devices (ALD) are a helpful tool for your church/venue to provide inclusiveness & enable participation for hard-of-hearing attendees. The ALDs we recommend allow individuals to wirelessly connect to public address systems with improvement in audio clarity and with background noise significantly reduced. Unlike the old audio loop systems, they are easily installed with no hard wiring and users can sit in their place of choice, using the system discreetly.

Products from Listen Technologies met 100% of the selection criteria during our year-long project to find suitable assistive listening technology. These are the top two products we recommend. See the full booklet also on this page for other options and more detail. See listentech.com for technical info.

  • ListenEVERYWHERE system: Live streams audio over your church Wi-Fi network. Users can either hear the low latency audio in their hearing aid or using headphones or earbuds connected to a free app running on their device (eg. smartphone or tablet)
  • ListenRF/TALK system: Radio-frequency system users can hear via a receiver supplied by the venue.

Audio loops are becoming redundant due to new technology in hearing aids. They limit users to specific seats and are the oldest AL system.

Legal requirements: all new public buildings are legally required to be fitted with an ALD. In existing buildings, it is courteous (& obligatory) to provide clear signage about the AL system your venue is using. Compliance signage is available further down on this page.

We have been able to source a supplier for the Listen Everywhere server at a reduced price of AU $1,500 which includes a subsidy from CSFBHI. Normal retail price is over $2,500 (prices current as at August 2023). For a FREE TRIAL, more information or referrals to churches who have installed these technologies, contact us.

This is a brief overview of a more detailed booklet, How to Equip Your Church or Venue for People with Hearing Problems. See below to obtain this booklet.

The products outlined are recommendations only to help simplify your ALD search process. CSFBHI has no financial relationship with the supplier.

Hearing Loss – Impact & Solutions for Churches

“HEARING LOSS AND CHURCH LIFE” explains the effects of hearing loss on communication, socialisation, family life, and participation in church life. It highlights the growing magnitude of the problem in the world, particularly in Australia, and how it presents our churches with an opportunity to show genuine Christian love and care for this segment of our membership and community.

“ASSISTIVE LISTENING FOR CHURCHES” provides an overview of technology choices available to churches and makes specific recommendations based on the results of a twelve-month-long research study conducted by Graham Weir on behalf of Christian Services for the Blind & Hearing Impaired.
